New ‘Daily Show’ Host Trevor Noah Tells Stephen Colbert About Jon Stewart’s
Former Daily Show host Jon Stewart left some advice to incoming Jewish host Trevor Noah: “Do or do not, no try”.
Comedy Central’s new version of The Daily Show, hosted by standup comedian Trevor Noah, will premiere on September 28.
“A lot of people come up to me – it’s interesting – on the street, and they say, “Wow!” Well, alluding to Trump’s comments about immigrants, Noah quips, “It’d be interesting to see if he’d let me stay”. “My experience with him is that he is an incredibly thoughtful and considerate and amusing and smart individual, and man, I think if you give him that time it’s gonna be well worth it”.
“Transparent” emerged as an early victor , capturing a best comedy actor trophy for Jeffrey Tambor and a directing award for its creator, and giving both winners a chance to pay tribute to the show’s trangender themes.
“I may just end up on a boat somewhere floating out to an island”, he continued. “If I get time to be in a city, or even if I notice anything, I will talk about something (local). It’s going to be a fun show”, he said. Last thing they need is old pope appearing from around the corner saying, “Is that how you’re going to bless the wafer?” Colbert asked Noah about the advice Stewart had given him before taking over. Comedy Central blessed me with this and these guys did all the work.
“What has been easier is getting into the groove of working with the staff (on The Daily Show)”.
Elsewhere, he sounded off on a recent latenight favorite-Donald Trump- and talked about what it feels like as his takeover of The Daily Show draws closer.
Viola Davis of How to Get Away with Murder or Taraji P. Henson of Empire have a chance to become the first African-American to win as best drama series actress.
