NIA gets 14-day custody of Udhampur terror attack accused
Mohammed Naved Yakub alias Usman, Pakistani terrorist captured after an attack on BSF convoy was sent to 14-day police custody by a special NIA (National Investigation Agency) court on Tuesday. During his custody with the police, the NIA had taken him to Valley and also the place of terror attack in Udhampur district to check veracity of his disclosures. Kumar will be visiting Jammu on Wednesday and lead the interrogation team.
“It’s a very important case for us and the entire probe is being done in a scientific manner”, Mr Kumar, who will also visit the scene of the encounter in Udhampur district that left two BSF personnel and a terrorist dead, said.
A special court in Jammu handed over Naved ” s custody to the central agency for 14 days.
Naved, a Lashkar-e-Toiba militant, was brought to Jammu amid tight security last evening as security agencies feared that the LeT may try to target him.
They said the publishing of reports in media helped some of the handlers and Over Ground Workers in touch with Naved to plan their escape and cover up operations.
NIA, which took over the case last week, has booked him under various sections of Indian Penal Code including waging war against the nation as well as Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act and Arms Act. The NIA set to approach a court to conduct narco test on the terrorist as if constantly changes his statement.
So far, 11 people have been rounded up by the police based on information provided by Naved during his interrogation and all of them are being questioned, the sources said.
After undergoing two modules of training with LeT, Naved is perceived to be a hardened militant who is trying to confuse his interrogators, a tactic apparently aimed at buying time for his other accomplices in the terror network to slip away. His other accomplice Mohammad Nomen, also from Pakistan, was killed in retaliatory fire by BSF and CRPF patrol.
