Pacquiao-Khan talks ongoing
“That’s why I’d like to have a rematch because I’d like to see one more time if he can do well in that fight”, sprayed Roach, to ESNEWS. “This is a huge fight and I most definitely won’t be able to fight twice in the space of four months”.
Manny Pacquiao’s promoter Bob Arum has confirmed that talks between his Top Rank outfit and Amir Khan’s own promotional team – including the Brit’s lawyer Robert Davis – are underway for a 2016 fight between the two former Wild Card stablemates.
Khan took another swipe at Mayweather for “ducking” him and said he would not be waiting for the unbeaten American to call. We’ve trained and sparred together.
Manny Pacquiao won’t sulk even if he doesn’t get a rematch with Floyd Mayweather Jr.
“If Manny fights Khan, Khan will probably bring 3,000 or 4,000 people over from the United Kingdom for the fight”, Arum said according to a report by ESPN.
Khan last boxed in May, making far harder than expected work of the light-hitting Chris Algieri, and is targeting Pacquiao after a mega-money fight with the newly retired Floyd Mayweather failed to materialize despite his very public chasing of the opportunity.
“This is the biggest fight out there for me and I will be ready”, he said.
“Manny is going to take the best guy, risk vs. reward – and determine who he fights. It could be either on HBO or any other network, as I am a free agent”.
Interestingly, Virgil Hunter (Khan’s trainer) is quote in the article as saying that Khan needs to make a more sustained commitment to training and spending time in one place – i.e. Hunter’s gym.
However, Roach dismissed the Mexican superstar’s statements, basing on what Arum told him that Marquez is actually still interested in the match. “Al Haymon, who advises me and looks after my interests, also likes the fight and hopes the fight can be made”.
Arum said Khan assured him that there is nothing happening regarding a possible fight with Provodnikov.
“I think he thinks I’m too risky for him”.

But a fight against the 36-year-old Pacquiao would be a fantastic opportunity for Khan to secure a signature victory against a boxing great.
