Pakistan does not cooperate in anti-terrorism campaign with Kabul: Afghanistan
Last month, 11 Hazaras were kidnapped in northern Baghlan province, which also has been plagued by militants since the Taliban stepped up their war against Kabul in April. “Do you have a taste for digging your own graves?” After all the Afghan security forces consist of Afghans who think like Afghans, can fight like Afghans but have had Western combat training and know how to outfight Afghans.
The Taliban issued a statement about the fighting giving a much higher figure for police casualties. The Ufa-launched process of admitting Pakistan and India as SCO members could enhance the organization’s future capacity to address the problems of Afghanistan. “In many ways America subordinated its Afghan policy to its Pakistan policy”. Given the proximity of Afghanistan to the post-Soviet republics of Central Asia and Russia’s borders, Moscow can not remain indifferent to Afghanistan, where the Islamic State is a growing worry.
As ISIS becomes more active in the east, the Taliban is consolidating in the north. The past couple of months have seen sporadic heavy fighting around the region’s central city of Kunduz.
In an abrupt shift from his fence-mending outreach with Pakistan, a visibly angry Afghan President Ashraf Ghani lashed out at Pakistani leaders Monday for allegedly harboring Islamist insurgents carrying out deadly cross-border attacks. Ghani soon after being sworn-in visited Pakistan, and then Pakistan’s army chief and head of intelligence visited Kabul. Afghanistan accuses Pakistan of cheating on this deal and continuing to support anti-Afghan groups like the Haqqani Network. When the lies are exposed, the Pakistanis flatly deny everything and start anew.
State Department spokesman John Kirby told reporters Tuesday that there is no “specific intelligence” to show that Pakistan has aided the Taliban in conducting attacks in sovereign Afghan territory. Something must be done about decades of anti-Afghan terrorism coming out of Pakistan. “Afghanistan after all is a very religious country and they have influence at the rural level”. It would appear Pakistan is not really interested in talks and is instead upping the ante and pushing the Indian government.
Ghani, who spoke by phone Sunday night with Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, said he gave a “clear and positive” message to Sharif that “the continuation of this situation is not acceptable”. He said he had ordered judicial authorities to be tough in prosecuting them and “not to show mercy on people who answer our peace demands with fire”.
Hours later, a suicide bomber killed at least 20 cadets outside a police academy, while another 10 people died in an attack on a military camp used by U.S. Army Special Forces. The locals don’t like to do this as it takes them away from their work, risks their lives and longer term violence with Islamic terrorists.
The airport is adjacent to a military base that includes coalition forces aiding Afghan troops. For the next two years (2011-12) the Taliban backed off and cut their losses to about 2,700 a year.
The consultant said that that the Taliban have affirmed the demise of Mulla Mohammad Omer – organizer and incomparable pioneer of the gathering – and they have chosen another pioneer – Mullah Akhtar Mansoor. But during the first half of 2015 the Taliban lost as many men as all of 2014. Daudzai, a former ambassador to Islamabad, added that whilst he thought Ghani’s attempts to woo Pakistan were “courageous”, they would ultimately fail to change the country’s behaviour.
