PM meets ministers over Punjab attack
Suspected militants fired at a bus station and entered police barracks on the outskirts of a northern town bordering Pakistan early on Monday, wounding at least six people, police said. Superintendent Baljit Singh, who was in the forefront, took a bullet on the head and was rushed bleeding to a hospital where he died.
Harchanran Singh Bains, a Punjab state government spokesman, said two of the dead were militants.
Now nuclear-armed rivals, India and Pakistan have fought three wars since both nations gained independence in 1947.
But in neighbouring Punjab, a majority-Sikh state, has largely been spared the violence that has plagued Indian Kashmir for decades.
Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh here today expressed confidence about the ongoing operation against the terrorists in Gurdaspur district of Punjab and said that the situation is under control.
Police has increased the security and the area has been cornered.
– The terrorists then attacked Dina Nagar police station, killing a cop on duty. I have spoken to Punjab Chief Minister, National Security Advisor and DG of Border Security Force.
Terrorists are reportedly attacking the northern Indian state of Punjab leaving six people dead and 10 others wounded, according to TV reports. While many Opposition parties have joined together in condemning this terrorist attack and are also expressing solidarity, it is unfortunate that the main Opposition party which ruled the country for years started disturbing even those statements. “They were dressed in army uniforms and came in a Maruti vehicle”, he told reporters at the scene. Seven civilians have been injured while three policemen have been injured in the attack. What appeared to be improvised explosive devices on railway tracks were also shown. “Later in the vehicle he told us about the terrorists and it was his swift action of picking his cycle and running which eventually saved him”, said wrestling coach Akash Verma, who works at Gopi Sports Academy.
“There is no information on this side to show support of Khalistan movement”, he said.
