Police say man shot in arm in Ferguson, another in custody
There’s been gunfire at a protest to mark the one-year anniversary of the shooting death of 18-year-old Michael Brown in Ferguson, Missouri. St. Louis County Police Department spokesman Shawn McGuire says officials are working as quickly as possible to get details of the incident.
Police pursued the vehicle in a chase that lasted about 20 minutes.
“All four fired at the suspect and the suspect fell”, Belmar said, adding that the man was in “critical, unstable condition” and in surgery. It ends with an unarmed black man shot dead. “Police understand they are now under the microscope”, said Mark Lomax, executive director of the National Tactical Officers Association, said.
The detectives involved had from six to 12 years of experience and were placed on administrative leave.
However, Mr. Belmar said those who fired shots weren’t demonstrators.
“We welcome peaceful protests”, an officer said on a loud speaker. He told people if not for them, it would have been “swept under the carpet”.
The silence began at 12:02 p.m., the time Brown was killed, and the length was to symbolize the four and a half hours that his body lay in the street after he was killed.
Many in the crowd wore T-shirts emblazoned with Brown’s portrait and the words “Choose Change”.
Police are saying the shooting was not related to the Michael Brown activities.
“If it wasn’t for y’all this would be swept under the carpet”. Police arrested several people.
“The police are going to do what they do”, he said. Protesters fled as the shots were fired, hiding behind cars and taking cover in buildings, the AP reported, as dozens of police cars and an armored vehicle converged on the area.
