Political outsider Carly Fiorina stands out
I’ll put it this way: What was Abraham Lincoln’s greatest accomplishment before becoming president?
Republicans think they may have found a possible female foil to Democratic frontrunner Hillary Clinton after businesswoman Carly Fiorina shone in the conservative party’s second presidential debate. Don Burton, who is now supporting Jeb Bush, said one of Mrs. Fiorina’s best qualities was “the way she handled Trump“.
Earlier in the evening at the pre-debate debate, Governor Bobby Jindal (La.) also called for defunding Planned Parenthood.
Like Twitter, the most talked-about moment on Facebook was Fiorina’s response to Trump’s “Look at that face!” insult, according to Facebook. Would anyone vote for that? That Mrs. Fiorina got that type of reaction from someone who is now supporting another candidate speaks to the impression Mrs. Fiorina is making.
FIORINA: Mrs. Clinton – if you wanted to stump a Democrat, ask them to name an accomplishment of Mrs. Clinton. But that’s not what I’m really interested in. “She’s got one place on the stage, not two or three”, he said. Bill Burton, a former Obama aide, cited her “women’s rights are human rights speech”, given 20 years ago; “her role in killing Osama bin Laden” (a nebulous answer, though it’s true she counseled in favor of the raid); and an even vaguer “management of the State Department”.
Trump, for the first time ever in his public life, looked dumbfounded. “People know this is about far more than replacing a D with an R. This is about changing the system”, she said. She pocketed millions of dollars in a golden parachute, was sacked from Hewlett-Packard.
But as multiple fact-checkers have noted, the scene she described doesn’t happen in any of the sting videos produced by The Center for Medical Progress within Planned Parenthood facilities.
Fiorina also recycled some of her most crowd-pleasing lines from the speeches that she has been been giving on the campaign trail.
“Instead of following through, she went back to the program and started blaming it on Obama”, Goldberg said.
So who is Carly Fiorina? It began with a question from Tapper about Trump’s criticism of Fiorina’s CEO experience.
As chief executive of HP between 1995 and 2005, she said she led the troubled company through the dotcom bubble and bust, and made “tough choices” on firing thousands of jobs. And Donald Trump had yet to steal most of Cruz’s disenchanted voters. They still haven’t recovered. He reiterated his commitment to build a wall across the southern border, and said he was exhausted of the United States government being “outsmarted” by leaders in China, Japan and Mexico.
Nina, Hillary Clinton’s support among women has been flagging of late.
“Last night I was very nice to her and some people thought I was being sarcastic”, Trump said.
