Politicos react on Udhampur terrorist attack even as forces arrested ‘Naved’
In the ensuing gunbattle, BSF troopers killed one terrorist while Usman fled into the dense forests by taking three locals as hostage. He also named three other over-ground LeT terrorists Ali, Shaheen and Abu Umar. However he said, Pakistan awaits Indian government approaching in this regard.
Police officials said he was linked to the Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) group, which also carried out the deadly Mumbai attack that left 166 Indians and foreigners dead. The arrested terrorist has been identified as Usman Khan and he is resident of Faisalabad in Pakistan.
In the Udhampur attack, two heavily-armed terrorists believed to be from Pakistan ambushed a convoy of BSF personnel and opened fire in which two constables and a militant were killed while another terrorist was caught alive in a manner identical to the nabbing of 26/11 attacker Ajmal Kasab.
A senior police official said the man “confessed” that he was a Pakistani national and had crossed into India through the Line of Control, the de facto border between the two countries.
On Tuesday, one person died and two others were injured in firing along the global border in Pargwal and RS pura in Jammu district.
The Jammu-Srinagar highway, where the attack took place, is the only, all-weather road link of Kashmir with the rest of the world which is cleared for traffic each day by road-opening parties of forces. On why they were targeting people and children in India, Naved told his audience: “There is fun in (doing) this”. Meanwhile, the Pakistani terrorist was shifted to the Joint Interrogation Centre at Talab Tillo area in Jammu where intelligence officers from the state and New Delhi quizzed him.
All essentials of life and security force deployments are routed to the landlocked Kashmir Valley through the Jammu-Srinagar national highway.
The spokesman said the Governor also spoke with Northern Army Commander Lt Gen D.S. Hooda and Director-General of Police K. Rajendra. Although Momin was killed in the gun battle with the Indian forces, Naved managed to escape after spraying bullets on the BSF convoy. “We hope Afghan leadership will stay engaged in the process of peace talks in order to promote a lasting peace in Afghanistan”, he said.
The Foreign Ministry spokesman said at his weekly briefing that Pakistan has always condemned the violations and lodged protests with the Indian High Commission in Islamabad.
