Pope Francis’ radical message may come in subtle form
Pope Francis’ time in Pennsylvania will include a visit to Independence Hall, the Curran Fromhold Correction Facility to speak with inmates and Sunday mass.
Before he departed Cuba on Tuesday, he called on its people to live a “revolution of tenderness”. He has had the opportunities to meet several popes. After the president and pope make brief remarks, they’ll head into the Oval Office for one-on-one talks that administration officials say will be centered not on advancing a political agenda, but on committing to shared values.
“One of my favorite characteristics of the Pope is his commitment to social justice and and a good state of life for all people”, added Karla Luke with the diocese’s Office of Catholic Education.
“Maybe I have given an impression of being a little bit to the left”. “He’s going to have his pope-mobile and he will drive by around everywhere so you should be able to get a close look at him”.
On Tuesday, Pope Francis will arrive in Washington, D.C. for the beginning part of his visit to the United States – his first-ever visit to the U.S. “I know that I hadn’t planned any audience with the dissidents or the others”.
Asked why his criticism wasn’t harsh, the Pope said “I haven’t been soft”. That may be curtailed a bit in the U.S.
“It’s been construed that he is much more socially liberal”, explained Moore.
Earnest talked about how Obama turned down high-paying jobs upon graduating law school to instead work in Chicago’s poor South Side, and how Francis is known for advocating on behalf of impoverished communities in his home country of Argentina before ascending through the Roman Catholic Church’s ranks.
Authorities have launched one of the biggest security operations in USA history to ensure the pope’s safety. And on Wednesday, he will canonize a California saint on Wednesday – Junipero Serra, founder of the California missions.
While the airport greeting appeared pretty standard, the rest of his visit will be anything but, with even Washington’s most influential politicians told not to expect a special meeting.
The event could attract up to a million and a half people. They also were open in sharing their personal pain.
Two and a half years into a papacy made possible by the unexpected resignation of Pope Benedict XVI, Francis has become wildly popular in the United States as his message of mercy has softened some of the church’s more traditional doctrines on sin and salvation.
