Prince has removed his music from all streaming platforms – except Jay Z’s Tidal. Much of his catalogue had never made it online.
For now, however, the artist’s songs are still streaming on Tidal, the music-subscription service spearheaded by Jay-Z that launched this spring.
Prince, the legendary pop artist, pulled all of his music from the streaming service on Wednesday.
Apple Music has Siri integrated in its streaming service via which you can call out any song you would like to listen to or any song by a particular artist.
Like any new Apple product or service, it invariably conjures up some emotions in people.
However, if you still have locally-stored music on your iPhone that you play through the Music app, Apple Music is still something that you’ll have to deal with, since the service is bundled in with the Music app itself.
Apple likely hopes the low price plans will help sell more of its iPhones in these countries, where they make up a minority of the smartphone market. Another post he retweeted from Billboard notes that the Department of Justice is considering a reform of the rules that govern how music publishers license digital music.
“Remember – we’re talking about an artist who first left his major-label deal before Napster even came out and who used the Internet to run his own label years ago”. How else am I supposed to teach my child how awesome Alphabet Street is and turn him into a lifelong Prince fan, when the CDs went to the charity shop a decade ago and it’s not on YouTube? Will you miss his music? And the services are, though different in design, broadly similar (with the exception of Taylor Swift shunning Spotify). I think he may be making the right choice here – perhaps he’ll get an exclusive deal that will bring in more money.
