Revamped Apple TV with new features unveiled
You can stream the entire Apple event through their website, here. This might look not very different externally, but a lot has changed on the inside with its hardware, as well as the software thanks to tvOS.
“Our TV vision is simple and provacative”, Cook said. The Apple TV can also help you do your shopping with the help of apps like Gilt.
Besides the apps, the new Apple TV’s remote features Siri, enabling users to do voice searches for TV shows and movies. The Siri Remote is motion controller that can be used to play games like on the Nintendo Wii. Siri can also make content suggestions for general questions like, “What are some new movies that are good to watch with kids?”
The new Apple TV is slated for release in late October and will retail for US$149 for the 32GB model and US$199 for the 64GB model. The new operating system is called tvOS.
So, we’d imagine popular on-demand apps like WatchESPN, YouTube, Vimeo, National Basketball Association and Major League Baseball might be included in due course.
Siri can also search across multiple content apps (Hulu, HBO, Showtime, Netflix and iTunes) and gives you results on one screen. The addition of the app store to Apple TV means that the device will, for the first time, support third-party developer apps.
When it comes to specifications, Apple TV includes Bluetooth 4.0, 802.11ac Wi-Fi with MIMO, IR receiver, and a 64-bit A8 processor.
Though not all of the features demonstrated are new – many already exist elsewhere – a stronger Apple in the TV market will only increase competition.
AppleApple just launched its new TV set-top box and one of the biggest improvements is that you can now use Siri to control much of the experience through its revamped remote. Developers can build games for the console, including Guitar Hero and Crossy Road.
