Review Roundup: Is the iPhone 6s worth the upgrade?
This month, Apple announced the iPhone 6S and the iPhone 6S Plus at an event in San Francisco.
The last upgrade of note is the way the 6S and 6S Plus can take selfies.
There’s no groundbreaking new look or “how did we live without that?!’ new features, but then that’s not really Apple’s style nowadays, as it turns into a ‘greatest hits” compiler par excellence.
Phone brokers buy unlocked iPhones, which aren’t tethered to a specific wireless carriers, and ship them to China and other destinations overseas where new models are in short supply or local taxes drive up the purchase price.
iPhone 6S Design: Well, this looks familiar…
The best thing about the 6S and 6S Plus isn’t all the new stuff to pay attention to, it’s all the stuff you never notice. Each interaction is accompanied by a different tiny vibration that helps you distinguish between them.
Bloomberg’s Sam Grobart reviews the Apple iPhone 6S and 6S Plus. At least get us to dinner. Unfortunately, optical image stabilisation is still a feature that is just on the iPhone 6S Plus. If you’re of a certain age, think Kodachrome versus Fujifilm. He said that iPhone 7 will come at its thinnest measurement yet at 6.6mm, which is already comparable to iPod Touch’s thickness. Switching back to a standard touchscreen display leaves you feeling like you’re missing something integral.
Walt Mossberg at the Verge called the new multi-touch, pressure-sensitive screen the iPhone upgrade’s “most important new feature”. Indeed, outside of 3D Touch, the phone toes the line of expected improvements without ever really pushing into uncharted territory. While this phone has NFC, Apple continues to lock that down in a way that denies the full benefits. Many rival smartphones, including Samsung’s, start at 32 gigabytes.
Besides, iOS 9 has a battery saving mode that can assist you with squeezing additional life out of your battery.
There’s a trio of storage options to pick from with the base-level 16GB model (£539) complemented by 64GB (£619) and 128GB (£699) offerings for the more ample of wallet. With the iPhone 6S, to see the Live Photos animation, push hard on your photo.
The iPhone 6S Plus will have a smaller battery than its predecessor. It is unclear if anyone is so busy that saving that one second of time is actually useful. It doesn’t work if you use the shutter bust feature. Given the iPhone is the most popular camera in the world, that will mean better photos for countless family albums. Adding checklists and picture support, the on-the-fly document creator now also supports annotations, with its collections of pens all playing nice with the 6S’s 3D Touch display, too. It’s just like using a pen and paper. That’s what I expect from Apple-make the software and hardware fast and easy to use. For its camera, the rear shooter is rumored to come at 12 megapixels with the ability to record 4K video, along with a 5 megapixel front shooter. Given that smartphone cameras are all about capturing those can’t miss, here and now moments, this speedy snapper is a major boon. The iPhones reproduce colors more accurately. With all this video, iMovie gets an update and you can edit your 4K video on your phone. Well… time you did maybe. The iPhone 6 lacks both Live Photos and 4K recording. It’ll officially launch at Apple stores at 8 a.m. on September 25. Along with sharing these photos, you can use them both as a locked screen for your phone and on your Watch – the wallpaper on my Apple Watch is a Live Photo of my dog.
That’s where the camera grumbles end, though, as the selfie camera is one of the best we’ve seen, with the screen-utilising “Retina flash” helping aid those after-dark vanity shots without blowing out the white balance. There is still some truth in the theory that a good camera is more than it’s megapixels but by creating a bigger resolution image, one advantage is that you have a bigger canvas to begin with.
Historically, Apple doesn’t like to overly tout the specs of its phones, focusing more on what they can do rather than clock speeds. The battery life and screen are relatively the same and the phone itself is more durable – it won’t bend. The key is to realize you need to focus on pressing hard, not pressing long.
