Roma submit bid for Arsenal goalkeeper
Arsenal supporters have reacted in their numbers in social media following the news that Wojciech Szczesny is set to join Serie A giants AS Roma.
Szczesny does not want to leave Arsenal permanently even after losing his place after being caught smoking in the showers after a defeat at Southampton on January 1.
Szczesny, who has made 181 appearances for Arsenal, helped the North London club to win the FA Cup in May.
Szczesny will be resigned to being back on the bench next season after the arrival of Cech, and it will be a disappointing end to the Polish star’s career at the Emirates if he does end up moving elsewhere.
Roma sporting director Walter Sabatini is in the final stages of securing Szczesny, according to Italian daily Gazzetta dello Sport.
Meanwhile, Roma letting go of Romero means Manchester United now have the all-clear to sign the former Sampdoria and Monaco goalkeeper.
A move to Roma could give him the opportunity to play regularly, and Rudi Garcia’s side will be looking to improve on their second-placed finish. The di Marzio report reads initially as if the deal would be permanent, but Matt Law claims otherwise, saying it would be a season-long loan.
