Samsung Galaxy Note 5 and S6 Edge+
Samsung have released a new phone cover for the Galaxy S6 Edge+ and Note 5, which comes with a keyboard, very much like the ones you’ve seen on BlackBerry handsets.
Pictured here next to the Galaxy S6 edge, the Galaxy S6 edge+ is designed with a bigger screen (5.7-inches), but the device itself is smaller and has been described as ‘deceptively compact’.
Samsung says that the S6 Edge+ is better for multimedia (its official tagline) while the Galaxy Note 5 on the other hand is marketed as ideal for multi-taskers.
Yesterday as the Samsung Galaxy Note 5 was revealed, several listings of a 128GB (internal storage) edition of the device popped up on the company’s own pre-sales site.
“With the launches of these exciting new smartphones, we will open a new era of mobile payment”, said J.K. Shin, CEO and head of Samsung’s IT and mobile communications division.
The Galaxy S6 Edge+ is thinner and light than the Note 5. The phablets are available for preorder from all four major US carriers now. However at the time of launch, Samsung only mentioned that they would arrive in 32GB or 64GB options, and given that neither phone sports a microSD slot, some users might be disappointed.
The Samsung Unpacked event also saw a presentation for Samsung Pay, a mobile payment service, and a teaser for the Gear 2 smartwatch, to be shown at a trade show in Berlin on Sept 3. The Galaxy S6 Edge Plus maintains its curved edges, along with a 16-megapixel camera, compared to 8 megapixels on the iPhone 6.
However, the Samsung US online store is offering 128GB versions of both handsets (1,2). Samsung is claiming improved pressure sensitivity and it now clicks in and out of its socket instead of just sliding out.
