Seagate 2TB Game Drive for Xbox Consoles Announced
With the launch of Windows 10 and a renewed push to unify Xbox and PC into one huge ecosystem, it’s a busy time for Microsoft. A Microsoft executive hints that developers may get their hands on this soon.
Managing your digital games wasn’t supposed to be a problem for the Xbox One – Microsoft once said that the console would “make storage management automatic” – but game installs just keep getting bigger, making add-ons like Seagate’s Game Drive necessary.
Microsoft has now limited support for first party titles only which cover games that Microsoft is either publishing or developing itself.
Back at this year’s Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3), Microsoft told us that they’d be changing the Xbox One dashboard interface this year. The Xbox Chatpad is compatible with all Xbox One controllers and works with Xbox One and Windows 10.
While the DVR feature sounds like an awesome new addition to the Xbox One’s bag of tricks, it will take an initial investment to achieve.
Designed for the Xbox One and coloured in Xbox green for that very reason, the aptly-named (2 Terabyte) Game Drive looks to help the console’s owners deal with their storage dilemmas.
The other stepping stone to this process is that you will need to purchase an additional external hard drive dedicated to your DVR programs.
Other announcements made during the Xbox Briefing include the release of the latest Halo 5-themed Xbox One console as well as Backwards Compatibility for all the upcoming Games with Gold titles.
The Xbox App on Windows 10 will let viewers schedule recordings on the go, stream their recordings to their device and download their shows for offline viewing. The company is in a dogfight with Sony and its PlayStation 4 console for dominance in the video game world. Obviously, gameplay will revolve around Halo 5: Guardians’ multiplayer and there will be all kinds of under card tournaments going into the main event.
