Sheena Bora Murder: Indrani Mukerjea quizzed for 80-90 hours, nothing more

He was under suspicion for being “gullible” to the fact that Indrani and Sheena were mother and daughter though he was told repeatedly by sheena and Rahul Mukerjeas, his son.

Investigators also have to establish the money trail in the murder conspiracy, recover the passport of Sanjeev Khanna and search his office premises.

“Cooperative” is a relative term in law enforcement. But the more they uncover, the more twisted it gets.

According to the investigation so far, Sheena was lured by Indrani to meet her at a spot near National College in Bandra that evening.

Indrani was arrested on August 25 on charges of killing Sheena on April 24, 2012 along with her driver Shyam Rai and Khanna. Her mother then went on to marry her father’s brother. “We will be dispatching the remains for a DNA test”, Mumbai Police Commissioner Rakesh Maria had said yesterday.

According to the police Sanjeev may have helped Indrani because he received a windfall from her for participating in the crime, including a flat at Howrah. She has not confessed. Sheena was the elder and Indrani was 17 or so when she gave birth to her.There are no details about her parents, only conflicting versions from the stories that Indrani herself spun. It was also found that Indrani had supported her estranged second husband (despite an ugly breakup) to stabilise his Cable business in Kolkata.

There are still more angles that need probing, including who was the unknown caller who tipped off Mumbai police some time ago about the Sheena murder.

India Today has tracked down Indrani Mukerjea’s first husband Siddhartha Das’s family in Assam.

Indrani had claimed that Sheena was her sister till she was arrested questioned earlier this week.

Khanna was also brought to Khar Police Station later in the evening for questioning. The auto, sources said was sold off to a dealer at a cheap price. It was also reported that the police rejected the fresh statement. Perhaps he is not wrong when he says he preferred to believe his wife.

In a series of tweets, the Shiva director mocked the Indrani-Sheena murder case and said it could either fit as a family film or a thriller.

While Indrani has stood firm and not yet admitted to her role in the crime, Khanna admitted to his complicity within hours of the police being granted his custody last week.
