Shoreham air crash pilot’s family ‘devastated’
Four victims of the crash have been named by their families and friends and the names of two others who are missing have emerged.
Assistant Chief Constable Steve Barry of Sussex Police told the BBC on Monday that he’d be surprised if the number of deaths “doesn’t go above” the 11 now known. On Monday he had suggested the death toll could rise as high as 20.
Local coroner Penny Schofield said identifying the victims would be a “slow and painstaking operation” that could take several weeks.
“We have to urge some caution though because we haven’t completed our full forensic examination of the crash site which is very extensive and there is always the possibility that some family or friends have yet to contact the police with their concerns”.
Among those killed when the plane struck their cars were two amateur footballers traveling to a match, while a vintage Daimler was also hit on its way to pick up a bride on her wedding day.
Motorcyclist Mark Trussler and Daniele Polito, a father from Worthing, are both missing and are feared to have been killed in the tragedy.
Among them was a card from Mr Schilt’s girlfriend, Megan Duffy, in which she told him he was the “love of my life”.
Mr Jones, a 24-year-old personal trainer from Littlehampton, West Sussex, had migrated to Cairns in 2014 before resettling in Victoria, according to details on his Facebook page.
There will also be a minute’s silence in honour of Mr Whyman and the victims of the Shoreham Airshow crash.

The pilot, former Royal Air Force instructor Andy Hill, 51, is in critical condition.
In a statement released by Sussex Police on behalf of the family, they said: “Following the tragic events at the Shoreham Airshow on Saturday, the pilot’s family are devastated and deeply saddened for the loss of life, and they send their prayers and heartfelt condolences to the families of all those affected at this hard time”.
