Snapchat to start charging for certain features
The technology comes out of Snapchat’s quiet purchase of Looksery, a San Francisco selfie-animation startup that launched last October after a successful Kickstarter campaign. Using the feature is quite easy – when on selfie mode, pressing and holding on the user’s face will activate Lenses. Although Snapchat has allowed this feature previously on the platform, the app has been letting its users to replay an already-viewed snap once per day. Snapchat says it will try to notify users if their snaps are screenshot, but by then it’s too late – the recipient has created a new image of your snap that is under his/her control.
If you fancy chatting to a friend, swipe right on their name in your Snapchat inbox to begin. However, with the new in-app purchase options, Snapchat hopes to change that. This new option gives Snapchat a further revenue stream, making them a little more attractive in the grand scheme of things when/if they finally go public. It was first offered as a free feature in 2013 and limited users to replay one Snap per day. However, they’re not switched on by default so here’s how to switch on filters in Snapchat.
With over 100 million active daily users, Snapchat isn’t slowing down. Of course, some users will be surprised that messages can be replayed at all, considering the fact that the company labels its service as a disappearing messaging service. With the Snapcat update, users can now have 3 additional replays for $0.99.
This turns your screen white to provide some extra light for your photo when you take it. You can turn the front flash on and off in the top-left of the screen. There’s a maximum of seven – we’re not sure why.
