Sprint counters T-Mobile US’ iPhone promotion
Those on other carriers, meanwhile, also have the chance to turn in an old smartphone (not necessarily an iPhone) and get the promotional $15 monthly rate on a new iPhone until December 31, 2015. “We decided: How awesome would it be if anytime customers don’t have the latest iPhone, they are eligible to upgrade, and have it be as simple as handing us your existing iPhone and picking up a new one – all included in your monthly rate.” iPhone Forever lets customers get an iPhone for $22 a month, with the simple rule that anytime they don’t have the latest iPhone on their plan, they are automatically eligible for an upgrade. However, subscribers that upgrade to a new iPhone before December 31 can get a special price of $15 per month. The key difference is that the plan isn’t going away at the end of the year like T-Mobile’s offering is.
Sprint calculates that their iPhone Forever plan saves $20 over a comparable wireless plans of T-Mobile. That gives you the ability to upgrade to a new phone whenever you want. With carrier subsidies, buyers could pay a “low” fee for the phone all at once and then just pay for the voice, text and data plan on a monthly basis.
The offer can be combined with any of Sprint’s rate plans, including its $60 per month “unlimited” offer, resulting in a total monthly price of $75 per month before taxes.
Apple is widely expected to unveil new iPhone models in early September.
The iPhone Forever program is clearly Sprint’s way of trying to outsmart a similar promotion introduced by chief rival T-Mobile in June.
As part of the new iPhone Forever promotion Sprint customers can get the current Apple (AAPL) iPhone for $22 a month, and upgrade to the next model of the phone when it becomes available.
T-Mobile also said that everyone who buys a new iPhone 6 with Jump! But T-Mobile’s program expands your choice of phones beyond the iPhone to such devices as Samsung’s Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge, the LG G4 and more models to come down the road.
Customers who don’t have the latest iPhone can take advantage of iPhone Forever.
