Sprint’s IPhone Forever Upgrade Program
AT&T customers can upgrade iPhones annually whereas Verizon customers can only upgrade when the total price of the phone has been paid off. T-Mobile is also offering iPhone rental for limited periods which is similarly priced as the new iPhone Forever plan. “As a special promotion, customers who get iPhone 6 and upgrade before December 31 continue with the discount price of $15 until their next upgrade”.
T-Mobile US Inc (NYSE:TMUS) inspired what has come to be known as Un-carrier strategy, and the practice is being adopted by its rivals quicker than one would have thought. After that date, your next upgrade will cost $22 per month. Customers can also buy those phones with two-year contracts at subsidized rates starting at $249.99, since Sprint’s plan to eliminate contracts hasn’t taken effect yet.
T-Mobile’s iPhone upgrade promo in July got subscribers excited about switching to a new iPhone as soon as its released. But as carriers compete to bring users on board-especially without the security of two-year contracts to lock them in-you can bet that costs will fall. However, clients are required to pay for the unit through monthly installments, usually lasting a couple of years. However, compared to its latest iPhone Forever promotion which allows users to upgrade every year, the previous plan only allows customers to get a new iPhone every couple of years.
Sprint calculates that their iPhone Forever plan saves $20 over a comparable wireless plans of T-Mobile.
In the same post by nbcnews.com, it was reported that two of Sprint’s biggest competitions, T-Mobile and Verizon have already ditched the same 2-year contract plans that’s been the norm for several years in the telecom business. The company also deemed T-Mo a “solid choice” if you primarily use your smartphone in a major urban area. The Pure Edition, on the other hand, is a phone built for this new leasing revolution; by changing the SIM card, it can work with any carrier. They used un-modified, carrier supplied Android smartphones to conduct the tests around the country.
These new iPhone upgrade plans are gold for Apple.
Owners of Sprint stock are just hoping these iPhone fans either don’t do the math, or don’t care about the math, since the offer doesn’t make a great deal of financial sense.
