Srinagar: Grenade attack on 2 mobile telecom company showrooms
A police official said.”The militants then hurled a grenade inside the premises and fled the place”.
Two mobile phone sales and service centres were attacked by unidentified assailants and lobbed grenades in Srinagar district. A BSNL employee was killed in one such attack in May.
Two people who were suspected as militants have attacked on the mobile showrooms by throwing grenades in Srinagar today.
A man working at a mobile phone shop had been shot dead along with another who had a cell phone tower installed on his property.
According to reports, the twin grenade blasts took place at an Aircel showroom and Vodafone tower located at Karan Nagar Chowk and Batmaloo crossing.
Police officials said that two grenades were hurled at Aircel and Vodafone offices in Karanagar.
Friday’s serial attacks are the first such incidents in Srinagar city through which the unknown assailants virtually declared a war on cellular operations in the state capital. DIG said that a high alert has been issued and all check points in the City have been alerted after the incident. No terror organization has so far claimed the responsibility of the attack.
The attacks later spread to nearby Pattan town before militants carried out similar strikes on mobile installations in the city.
Interestingly, the Jammu and Kashmir Police stands vindicated, which had maintained since the beginning that a breakaway module of Hizb was responsible for tower attacks and killings in Sopore.
