Suspected US drone strike kills 4 militants in Pakistan
At least four suspected militants were killed in an alleged U.S. drone strike in Pakistan’s North Waziristan tribal region on Thursday, a Pakistani army official said.
The pilotless aircraft operated by the Central Intelligence Agency fired two missiles at a compound last night in Alwara Mandi area of Datta Khel in North Waziristan. They claimed the owner of the house was believed to be a member of the Haqqani Network, though exactly who it was or what his position was is unknown.
“At least five militants were killed in a drone attack”, a senior security official told AFP.
The death toll could not be verified through independent sources as the area is out of reach of journalists.
Islamabad has routinely issued such denunciation after each drone attack on its territory in the past.
More than 3,450 people have been killed in over 400 drone strikes in Pakistan since 2004.
Global organizations and human rights groups say the US drone strikes in Pakistan pose a growing challenge to the worldwide rule of law.
“These events also generate distrust among the local populace. We reiterate our call for cessation of such strikes”, the statement said.
The drones stored on hovering over the world earlier than and after the strike, inflicting panic amongst native residents.
