A free tier is available, too, that limits song skipping for streaming music but does include Beats 1 radio.

Other battery-saving features are expected to extend the device’s battery life by an extra hour.

Apple Music, which officially launched Tuesday, has been the focus of the music industry for the last few weeks. At the heart of the strategy is Beats 1, which bills itself as a first global radio station and will be available in more than 100 countries.

It combines the music you’ve purchased through iTunes as well as the music you’ve added to your library from Apple Music.

The timing is slightly earlier than usual, with Apple tending to make updates available at 10am Pacific Time.
