Taliban attack kills 21 in Afghanistan

A auto bomb exploded near the entrance to Kabul airport and casualties are feared, officials said on Monday, days after series of suicide attacks in the Afghan capital killed dozens and wounded hundreds.
The Taliban has stepped up attacks across the country since US and North Atlantic Treaty Organisation forces shifted from a combat to a support and training role at the end of last year, drawing to a close the 13-year military campaign Operation Enduring Freedom. Taliban claimed the responsibility for the attack.
Four civilians were killed, and 17 people wounded, including a woman and a child, said Wahidullah Mayar, a spokesman for the public health ministry. The officials said the strike late Saturday hit the fighters on a coastal road as they headed toward the embattled city of Zinjibar in southern Yemen.
Kunduz is among the volatile provinces in northern Afghanistan where anti-government armed militant groups are actively operating and frequently carry out insurgency activities.
Earlier Friday, 15 people were killed in a truck bomb attack in the capital.
The responsibility for at least two of the bombings had been claimed by the Taliban.
Civilians often bear the brunt of war in Afghanistan as 1,592 civilians had been killed and 3,329 others injured in the first half month of 2015, UNAMA said in a report released recently. Academi, U. S. security contractor, was responsible for camp integrity.
Islamabad-Afghan President Ashraf Ghani telephoned Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Sunday evening to discuss the ongoing reconciliation process with Afghan Taliban, the Prime Minister House said in a statement.
New Taliban leader Mullah Ahktar Mansoor has not been clear on whether he is interested on continuing to hold peace talks with the Afghan government.
“It is a fact that Mullah Omar’s family commands respect among the Taliban but as far as I know they do not aspire leadership of the movement”, he added.
