Ted Cruz: Obama’s plan to welcome 10000 Syrian refugees is ‘crazy’
Sen. Ted Cruz, a GOP presidential candidate, addresses supporters at Kalamazoo Wings stadium in Michigan.
During a campaign stop in Kalamazoo, Michigan, Cruz said Obama’s plan is “crazy”.
The House Republican conference will elect their candidate for speaker the next day, and that candidate-likely House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy of California-will face an October. 29 election on the House floor.
“What President Obama is proposing – bringing tens of thousands of Syrian Muslims to America – is nothing short of insane”, Cruz said.
However, National Intelligence Director James Clapper has not confirmed that ISIS members were among the refugee wave. He said it would be the “height of foolishness” to allow “Syrian Muslims” into the country. ISIL is an alternative acronym for the Islamic State group.
Appealing to Christian voters, Cruz argued that the Obama administration is leaving behind Christian refugees.
“Isn’t it part of our nature as Americans to say, ‘How can we help people in need?'” he asked last week.
This marks senator Cruz’s third visit to Michigan since announcing his candidacy and his second visit in the past month.
