THE CRIMES OF GRINDELWALD Trailer Reveals A Suprise Character — FANTASTIC BEASTS
The serpent who acted as one of the Dark Lord’s horcruxes was actually once a woman. Still, the latest trailer is packed with new footage, and hints at the origins of Voldemort’s favorite snake. We don’t know yet how her friendship with Credence Barebone will factor into the huge war against Gellert Grindelwald. Claudia Kim is Nagini.
As you can see below, the brewing controversy takes offense to the fact Nagini is being played by a Korean woman. “An Asian woman who was on exhibit in a circus …”
“She does feel sometimes it’s not controllable”. “She is bound to [permanently] transform at some point to a beast, so she feels this pressure that the clock is ticking”.
First, it revealed that Nagini used to be human.
In an interview with EW, Kim said Nagini herself is far different from the villain who killed Severus Snape in Deathly Hallows. And she doesn’t have a wand, ” Kim shared. However, the final promo has clues connecting to the blockbuster seven-movie series and we’re super pumped! And be sure to catch all your favorite movies from the Wizarding World on Syfy and United States of America, the new home of Harry Potter. According to Rowling, Nagini is a Maledictuses, a human woman cursed to eventually turn into an animal and be unable to turn back.
When asked by a netizen on how long she’s known about Nagini’s past, author JK Rowling replied on Twitter, “Only about 20 years”.
An Animagus can control when they transform, but a Maledictus holds a “blood curse” that “destines her ultimately to transform into a beast”. “Not a great f***ing look gang!”
Though the original tweeter accused Rowling of “suddenly” making this choice for Nagini, Rowling has said that there is nothing sudden about it.
“The Naga are snake-like mythical creatures of Indonesian mythology, hence the name ‘Nagini, ‘” Rowling writes. It also stars Jude Law as a young Albus Dumbledore, and fans have expressed disappointment that the character – whom Rowling has confirmed is gay – will not be “explicitly gay” in the film.
The nearly two and a half minute trailer promises action, surprises, wondrous visual effects, a strong Dumbledore/Newt bond, and a terrifyingly motivated villain in Johnny Depp’s Grindelwald.
