Three explosions rock city in Nigeria’s Borno state
Maiduguri-The Borno State police command yesterday confirmed that 54 people were killed and 95 critically injured in multiple explosions that rocked the suburb of Maiduguri, around Ajilari, Bintu sugar and Gomari Airport general areas by suspected terrorists.
This is the fist such horrific attack to hit the city in the past couple of months reports The Washington Post.
Extremists detonated 3 explosive devices in Maiduguri, a military official said Sunday.
A Nigerian army spokesman said last night that three bombs had gone off. The Boko Haram insurgency, which aims to establish a strict version of Islamic law in Africa’s largest economy and oil producer, has left thousands of people dead.
Suspected members of the Boko Haram sect have struck in Maiduguri, capital of Borno state, leaving an unspecified number of people dead. “They say… they have killed us; that they are through with Boko Haram“, he adds.
As the military continues its offensive for the final defeat of Boko Haram terrorists, the fight in the northeast is gaining successful momentum with most of the camps falling to the Federal might. The Nigerian army, deployed in the city and surrounding area, were taken unaware.
Since July, about 100 people have died in suicide attacks in the extreme north of Cameroon, which is a major contributor to an 8,700-strong, Nigerian-led regional force expected to start operations against Boko Haram this year. “They are now combing all known terrorist enclaves within the Bama, Banki and Pulka areas”.
“With more refugees and not enough resources, our ability to deliver lifesaving assistance on the ground is now seriously compromised”, said Mr. Fontaine.
“Buhari, you are yet to finish spending Obama’s money”.
“We are alive, I am alive, this is my voice, more audible than it was before”.
Last month Chad’s President Idriss Deby said Shekau, who has not appeared in a video since February, was wounded and had been replaced as leader by Mahamoud Daoud, of whom little is known.
