Tiger Woods ties course record with opening round 62 — BMW Championship
Rory McIlroy struggled to hide his disappointment at missing out on a great chance to shoot a 59 as he settled for a 62 and a share of the lead with Tiger Woods at the BMW Championship.

Woods has shot 61 four times on the PGA Tour, most recently at the 2013 Bridgestone Invitational which he won for his 79th career victory on tour, but he is still stuck on that mark. The fairways are so wide it doesn’t really test you off the tee. All the positives right now.

“I would have loved to have played Northern Trust but I thought for me it was better to take the week off and work on my game”, McIlroy told Golf Channel after his round. “There are a lot of good signs out there”. I get good support around here.

Former world No.1 Day, a perennial contender in the playoffs, sits in a healthy 10th on the overall FedEx Cup standings.
“This golf course is meant to play a little firmer than what it is, ” McIlroy said. “I guess that’s what I did”. He had to wait to see if it was the best score Thursday on a soft course in scorching conditions at the BMW Championship.

It wasn’t all about the putter Thursday. Can it continue? It’s too early to go insane thinking about the possibilities, but Woods did himself no harm Thursday.
He hit 11 of 14 fairways and 16 of 18 greens.
It didn’t hurt that Woods took Wednesday off. With a bogey on his penultimate hole, he had an 8-under 62 at Aronimink.
“I’m a little exhausted and need a nice ice bath because it was warm out there”. And 48 of the 69 players in the field are under par. He also skipped the Pro-Am due to the heatwave conditions.
