Trump Attacks Bush As Not Electable, ‘Dumb’ On Iraq
On the Democratic side, Hillary Clinton is still atop both the prediction markets and the polls.
She then gives the president and Hillary Clinton credit for the gains we have made in the Middle East: “Words matter in the world of diplomacy, and so does leadership”.
Bush was the first of six GOP candidates holding 45-minute question-and-answer sessions at The Education Summit with former NBC News reporter Campbell Brown today. We should have very little tolerance for failure. That was the “brilliant, heroic” surge, which “turned events toward victory”.
Commentator George Will, who calls Donald Trump “vulgar”, once robustly supported the Iraq War. Their “premature withdrawal” of U.S. troops from Iraq was a “fatal error” that allowed the Islamic State and Iran to move in and fill the void. And none of it addresses the fundamental problem in Iraq, which George W. Bush also failed to grasp: the lack of political reconciliation among Shiites, Sunnis and Kurds.
The New York Times reported previous year that American soldiers were getting sick because of the chemical and biological material they were encountering: “Jarrod L. Taylor, a former Army sergeant on hand for the destruction of mustard shells that burned two soldiers in his infantry company, joked of “wounds that never happened” from ‘that stuff that didn’t exist.’ The public, he said, was misled for a decade”.
Yes, the surge was a great success. He’s given more money to Democrats than he’s given to Republicans.
To press the analogy a bit, say another doctor comes in and decides that long-term care is no longer necessary. The bottom line is they absolutely believe there were nuclear weapons on the ground. “BLAME THE DEMOCRATS” won’t work.
His brother’s name is already hurting Jeb Bush. “Jeb Bush is a low-energy person”, Trump said.
As for the Fourteenth Amendment, which Trump recently declared unconstitutional in its application to birthright citizenship, Bush said he thinks it’s a “pretty good amendment”.
“We’re a conservative party, aren’t we, the Republican Party?”
Even though it cuts against their moderate instincts, they will have to fake up an interest in Trump’s deviations from conservatism and intensely engage them to upend his campaign. “I think New Hampshire wants to educate their children locally”. “But they’re going to come back legally”. But because of his family, Bush seems somehow driven to re-argue the war.
While giving a speech in South Carolina on Tuesday, Bush said lawmakers should revisit changes to the Patriot Act, dismissing concerns from those who say the legislation violated Americans’ privacy rights. I know he’s the big personality, but the simple fact is the next president needs to unite people with a hopeful, optimistic message.
