Trump’s call to end abuse of US birthright citizenship divides GOP field
This is going to be hard to explain because the people who generalize based on race or some other identifier don’t realize they’re doing it and it’s the key to Trump’s success.
“I’d like to have the election tomorrow”, he said to laughter.
The extraordinary Donald-Trump-for-president roadshow careened into America’s deep South Friday, as the abrasive tycoon railed once more against the political establishment but offered little policy substance in a rambling speech at an Alabama rally.
As it turned out, the rally ended up featuring around 20,000 people – around half the capacity of the 40,000-person stadium. In fact, last weekend on ABC’s This Week she argued, “Well, you know, it’s not clear to me that Donald Trump is a Republican, first of all, based upon his willingness to run a third party bid and the-some of the positions that he’s taken”. “Has anyone ever heard of senator Jeff Sessions?”
Interestingly, Jindal, who is trailing at the bottom in most of the opinion polls and enjoys support of less than 1 per cent in CNN’s recent poll, was himself born three months after his pregnant mother came to the US from India. For many, it’s a backlash to the Obama administration years. “He is like George Wallace, he told the truth. It turns out it’s the same old thing, it’s the color of his skin”.
Wallace, a fierce opponent of civil rights, served as governor of Alabama and sought the presidency multiple times.
White said, it doesn’t matter where he has to travel, he’s willing to pack up his camper and hit the road driving as far as California if that is where Trump needs his services.
Savannah Zimmerman, a 27-year-old registered nurse from Mobile, agreed.
Those two men are the two GOP contenders who are also viewed as possible winners by the general public.
“I think he appeals to us Southerners because he tells it like it is and he has strong opinions”, said Savannah Zimmerman, a 27-year-old registered nurse from Mobile.
“I don’t”, he said.
The campaign had to switch locations twice – from a hotel and convention center – after demand for tickets exceeded holding capacities. “Finally, the silent majority is back!”
Thanks to Trump, Americans are getting it off their chests.
This characteristic alone sets Trump apart from the rest of the candidate pool.
Trump since announcing his candidacy in mid-June has made illegal immigrants from Mexico a top concern and has suggested several solutions – including a wall along the southern border and the change to birthright citizenship.
His campaign, which was expecting a crowd of about 35,000 people at the rally Friday night, also arranged for free shuttle buses, according to Mobile Press-Register.
That’s going to come as big news to hundreds of thousands of immigrant workers who may have lived in this country many years, bore children here and paid millions or even billions in taxes to the United States.
