Trump Takes Bloody Shot At Kelly: ‘I Don’t Respect Her’… Period
Play video “Who Is Donald Trump?” Trump’s Twitter feed is sprinkled with insults to women – and some men – that use words such as “dog”, “ugly”, “dumb”, “stupid” and “disgusting“. Before Kelly could finish her question, Trump raised his finger, smirked and responded “only Rosie O’Donnell”.
The remark prompted conservative commentator Erick Erickson, an organiser of conservative forum RedState Gathering, to withdraw an invitation for Mr Trump to appear at the event.
Trump’s campaign, playing defence, released a fiery statement on Saturday that said only a “deviant” would construe his comment about Kelly in lewd terms.
The comments by Trump, the billionaire New York developer and reality television star whose blunt manner has brought a new dynamic to the 2016 presidential race, come during a campaign in which Republicans are trying to overcome what Democrats say is their “war on women”.
Trump’s campaign was incensed – and unbowed. “You could see there was blood coming out of her eyes”. That description deviated from the telephone interview that aired. She also tweeted: “Mr. Trump: There. Is”. They said they stood with the journalist. “I’m running for president”.
The two-hour debate wasn’t without some drama as the candidates battled it out on stage.
Trump complained after the debate that the Fox News moderators – Megyn Kelly, Bret Baier and Chris Wallace – had treated him badly, with unfair questions designed to embarrass him and ultimately bring him down. But they no doubt saw enough Thursday night to begin to worry about what a general election pitting a vulnerable Clinton against one of the non-Trumps could portend. “Generally speaking”, he said, “in the world of politics, [reporters] didn’t cover my statement the way I said it”.
Trump’s absence from Saturday’s program threatened to overshadow appearances by a number of his rivals, including Huckabee, Walker, Sen. Sure, Jeb Bush, Scott Walker, Ted Cruz, Rand Paul and the others tried to be serious about policy, but who wants to talk policy when we could hear Trump ramble?
“My No. 1 goal is to create the greatest economic boom in American history, to unleash the incredible spirit of free enterprise in this country – to get America moving again”, Trump said.
“Personally, we need to make up our own minds if someone is stupid”, said Jack Staver, a business consultant from Woodstock, Georgia.
“These candidates want to take our nation backwards, with no concrete or common sense policies that will help grow our middle class”, wrote Chairman Gilberto Hinojosa. “These are not the nice, sweet little people that you think, okay?”
