Typhoon Dujuan leaves 3 dead, more than 340 injured in Taiwan
At least two people were killed and 324 others injured as typhoon Dujuan battered Taiwan, officials said on Tuesday.
Super-typhoon Dujuan battered Taiwan leaving 24 injured as torrential rain and fierce winds hit Monday evening, while China issued its top alert as the storm approached the mainland.
Dujuan made landfall in the coastal city of Putian, in Fujian province, at about 8.50 am, with winds travelling at speeds of up to 33 metres per second, Xinhua reported, citing the Fujian Meteorological Service.
The powerful storm made landfall late Monday on Taiwan’s east coast, pummeling the town of Suao with gusts as strong as 246 kph (153 mph). Severe winds have uprooted trees, smashed windows and triggered landslides. It was downgraded to a “moderate typhoon” by Taiwan’s Central Weather Bureau as it crossed the island.
More in comparison with 12,000 people have been evacuated and practically around three, 000 are in temporary refuge, bases expressed. Schools and offices in Taiwan remain shut on Tuesday and the stock market is also closed.
It was the newest hit for Wulai which was severely broken by flooding and landslides in August when Typhoon Soudelor hit, with a few residents unable to return residence for weeks.
Bullet-train services will be suspended from 3 p.m.as a precautionary measure, Taiwan High Speed Rail Corp. said in a statement on its website.
