Uganda beats Dominican Republic 4-1 in Little League WS
After narrowly losing to Pearland, Texas, in their tournament opener, the Portland, Ore., Little Leaguers saw their 2015 World Series come to a harsh end Saturday.
Uganda reliever Jovan Edaku earned the save in two innings of relief, coaxing a bases-loaded groundout in the bottom of the fifth inning and a 4-6-3 double play turned by shortstop Joshua Olara in the bottom of the sixth. Australia will take on the loser of Sunday’s Mexico-Japan game Monday.
Bowling Green needed those runs when Oregon scored five times in the sixth.
This is also the Dominican Republic’s first appearance here since 1996. The Dominican Republic will play a consolation game Monday against the loser of the game between Portland, Oregon, and Bowling Green, Kentucky.
In other losers’ bracket games Saturday, it was: Sydney 3, Santiago de los Caballero 0; and Taipei, Taiwan 16, White Rock, British Columbia 4 in four innings. Adamec allowed only two hits in three innings and won six nights after picking up the win in the New England final.
Canada will face Missouri in Consolation Game B at 1 p.m. Tuesday. The Rhode Island team improved to 8-0 in elimination games this summer.
Taiwan will play Monday against the loser of Sunday’s game between Uganda and Venezuela.
Jason Palatano had two RBIs for Rhode Island, which was no-hit by Alex Edmonson in its tournament opener.
