UK airshow disaster death toll likely to hit 11
According to the BBC, an additional 14 people were injured in the crash, including the plane’s pilot, who remains in critical condition.
The jet appeared to wobble slightly and lose height at the bottom of its loop before ploughing across the A27, a major road that runs along England’s southeast coast.
So far seven people have been confirmed dead, but authorities have warned the toll will rise. AP will not be held liable for any delays, inaccuracies, errors or omissions therefrom or in the transmission or delivery of all or any part thereof or for any damages arising from any of the foregoing. Authorities reportedly said that removing the wreckage is a “delicate” operation as the jet still contained fuel.
Bodies of the dead were still being removed on Sunday.
The police said it was not known why the pilot, said to be an experienced former Royal Air Force pilot, lost control of the craft.
“If you do have anything that you think may be of use, please let us know by emailing shoreham.aircrash2015@sussex.pnn.police.uk, but please do not attach the files at this time”.
Dozens of floral tributes have been left near the scene of the crash by local residents and mourners.
Friend and pilot Neil McCarthy said Mr Hill was one of only six who flies a 1950s Hawker Hunter and described him as a fantastic, exceptional pilot and mentor.
Seven deaths were initially reported but more bodies were recovered from the accident site.
Mr Grimstone, 23, the first-team goalkeeper, and Mr Schilt, also 23 and a “tenacious midfielder”, were on their way to play a home game against Loxwood FC at 3pm when they were caught up in the crash.
“We immediately commenced our review processes and remain committed to continuously enhancing the safety of all civil aviation and will provide further updates in the days to come”, CAA reportedly wrote in a statement.
“It’s about 400 yards (meters) of the dual carriageway and extends into the airfield itself”, Barry said.
The family said they are “devastated and deeply saddened for the loss of life”, and they “send their prayers and heartfelt condolences to the families of all those affected at this hard time”.
“Removal of those who died will carry on today and is likely to continue throughout tomorrow”.
