US ‘disappointed’ about collapsed Pakistan-India peace talks
“We were encouraged by the early constructive interaction between the leaders of India and Pakistan earlier this year”, in Russian Federation, State Department spokesman John Kirby told reporters Monday.
Addressing a news conference in New Delhi yesterday, Indian External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj had put forth two conditions for the talks.
Swaraj also said India would only discuss terrorism-related issues, whereas Pakistan wanted a wider agenda that would, among other things, discuss the Kashmir question.
Holding India responsible for cancellation of the NSA-level talks, separatist leader Naeem Khan on Sunday said that a third party intervention is imperative because the two neighboring nations have not been able to resolve a 68-year-old conflict so far. “We are always for talks…it is now up to Pakistan to take the initiative”, the minister remarked.
Adviser to the Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs and National Security Sartaj Aziz said Sunday that the current Indian government under Narendra Modi acts as if it is a regional superpower.
Urging the Centre to remove this “weakness”, Yechury said the dialogue between the two countries should resume ensuring peace along border and future of both the countries.
India has also detained some Kashmir leaders who had flew to New Delhi to meet Pakistan’s top security advisor. He also wished that the enmity that both the countries held for a long time is abolished and all people live together in a peaceful environment where brotherhood presided.
Main objective of any dialogue btw India and Pakistan is to reduce tensions and restore trust as a first step towards normalization.
He said that while Pakistan has evidence of Indian involvement in terrorism, India on the other hand only has propaganda against Pakistan.
He is learnt to have said that Islamabad was keen till the last minute to attend the NSA talks, and that India “deliberately” misread the Ufa joint statement. So when Singh says that Pakistan has to decide as to what it wants, the clear message is that India would not deviate from these redlines.
He has asked the global community to take notice of the cancellation of talks by India with Pakistan.
The minister went on to say that National Security Advisor Sartaj Aziz is ready with his files and baggage to depart to India.
