Utes dominate the not so mighty Oregon Ducks 62-20
Travis Wilson returned from a shoulder sprain and threw for 227 yards and four touchdowns in No. 18 Utah’s 62-20 victory over No. 13 Oregon on Saturday night in the Pac-12 opener for both teams.
What options do you have if you’re defensive coordinator Don Pellum or John Neal, the secondary coach? He ran for 156 yards and two touchdowns against Fresno State last Saturday, also catching five passes for 56 yards.
Utah’s delight was Oregon’s disaster in a Saturday night that was both unexpected and unprecedented.
The running game is suffering as well. Oregon only managed 5.1 yards per play and turned the ball over three times in the game.
Neal did leave open the possibility of moving Robinson to cornerback, where his 6-foot-4 size would at least make offenses think twice. “We’ve just got to take it week by week and fight for one victory”.
“We’ve got a lot of work to do, but it’s good to be 4-0″, Sudfeld.
Sad to say, it was a shocker of sorts and the Utes ended up making a statement that they plan to pull off some surprises for this season.
There were those who figured 18th-ranked Utah could give 13th-ranked Oregon all it could handle in a matchup of two of the Pac-12’s premier teams.
Helfrich took full responsibility for not preparing his team.
Rosen had two touchdowns on 19-of-28 passing and ran for another score after struggling the previous two games. But the calming effect wasn’t long-lasting. His first drive finished with a 6-yard touchdown pass to Bralon Addison. The Colorado game next week just got all that more interesting. “We knew we had to keep putting points on the board to have a chance”. He was ineffective playing with a broken index finger which had kept him out of last week’s game Georgia State, and was replaced by Jeff Lockie in the second quarter.
Chris Hawkins scooped it up and ran 94 yards for the third of four second-quarter touchdowns for the Trojans.
How Utah handles its wins is Utah’s business. He added 100 rushing yards and one touchdown in the win. “I was kind of upset [when] they hit 101 in the last few seconds”, Michigan hybrid defensive end Mario Ojemudia said. Defenders checked into a new look, Hardrick told reporters, but the message wasn’t heard through the entire defense. He sports a compact, powerful build and runs even heavier than he looks, frequently breaking tackles due to his low center of gravity, good forward lean and impressive leg drive.
“Uhh”, he said, drawing out the sound for several telling seconds. “We’re doing some things that are so frustrating … you just can’t do some of the things we’re doing”. The Utes averaged 8 yards per play as they racked up 530 total yards of offense.
“This is the first time I’ve come out of here with a win“, said the man who lost twice at Autzen with Oregon State and three times with Arizona State as a head coach.
The Ducks “are the double F’s – flashiness and finesse”, said Utah receiver Kenneth Scott, who hauled in six passes for 75 yards and a TD. Oregon WR Darren Carrington missed his fifth game because of an NCAA suspension for a failed drug test. He will sit out one more game…. Saturday was the first loss. “That is a talented team, a veteran team, and we did not play well”. That starts up front.
Opponents have much more room for error in 2015.
Hard to believe it has come to this for Oregon.
With just seven points to show for his first five drives, Adams made his way to the bench, and Lockie ran onto the field to try and spark the Oregon offense.
Arizona got off to a great start against UCLA’s depleted defense, quick-hitting its way to a 34-yard touchdown pass from Solomon to Nate Phillips. Points: 33, 35, 23 … zero. Opponents, meanwhile, have scored 28 points off UO’s errors. This team went into Autzen Stadium and not only did they defeat the Oregon Ducks, they dismantled them, 62-20.
For casual conversation in these Utah-chic days, know that Booker gained 1,512 yards previous year, that he started off at American River Community College in Sacramento, that he’s a 212-pound horror with charitable intentions in life.
