Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal does not mind that he will not have the longevity in one job that Arsene Wenger and Sir Alex Ferguson have enjoyed.
Louis van Gaal has paid tribute to the role played by utility man Ashley Young in Manchester United’s impressive form despite his latest snub from England manager Roy Hodgson.
Wenger has spent 19 years in charge of Arsenal while Sir Alex Ferguson spent more than 26 years at Old Trafford before retiring. You can read about that in the Guardian.
Van Gaal will give his players Friday off as he tries to ensure they are in peak condition, but will not finalise his team until Saturday.
Mata scored the penalty, teed up Smalling’s 53rd-minute victor with a delightful improvised flick and proved a constant source of invention, but Van Gaal was reluctant to join in with praise of the Spaniard’s display. Bastian Schweinsteiger has been fantastic this season, but his alternating presence with Carrick seems to be keeping them both in decent shape so far. “The second goal, I think, was a s*** goal”, he said.
The Dutchman has also stressed the need for United themselves to get better, despite Wednesday’s victory being their fourth in a row in all competitions.
“We have beaten Wolfsburg, I am very happy and the players are very happy, but we have to improve on the second-half performance and we have to know that, and I have said that also to the players”. “Then you have to play again mid-week in the Champions League and that is the difference between all the clubs in Europe”.
“There will be a lot of attacks on the English teams because they have not won games”, Cambiasso said.
“I always want more”, he added.
Arsenal head into Sunday’s game on the back of their shock 3-2 Champions League loss to Olympiacos at Emirates Stadium on Tuesday night, which left their hopes of reaching the last 16 in tatters. “Doctor’s orders. I’ve seen the specialist and his advice was not to do it, so when things like that happen you can’t really ignore it. As much as I would like to, I couldn’t do it”. Then you have to continue and we did, but only for the first 15 minutes, I think. “That is why we are here, to improve ourselves so we win every game. But he has been great and I am pleased for him“.
