Vivo Nex smartphones with all-screen display, pop-up camera launched
The smartphone makes a sound when the selfie camera rises and hides. In any case, it should be an improvement over the company’s previous devices which sported in-display fingerprint scanners.
Vivo needs a big win with the Nex handsets, in the face of declining shipments and tough competition.
Vivo has joined the ranks of phone makers that offer their own virtual assistant, with Jovi. The arrival of Vivo NEX smartphone will mark company’s official entry into the true bezel-less smartphone space with in-display fingerprint reader. It’s not entirely without bezels – as a small “chin” remains at the bottom edge of the edge – but it’s well ahead of the competition. FYI, the bezel on the right and left is pretty thin at 1.71mm. We’ve been looking forward to a 100% screen-to-body ratio but we know it’s impossible to achieve at this point.
The highlight of the new phone lies in the narrow bezels surrounding the display, which was made possible after Vivo came up with a rather unique solution to do away with the display notch. The Jovi AI assistant is equipped with features like Image Identification, shopping, translation, identification of web pages, etc.
There are also no speakers on the front. Wondering where the earpiece is? The conventional earpiece on the front seems to be replaced with a Cantilever Piezoelectric earpiece integrated within the display which propagates sound waves through vibrations, similar to the implementation seen on the original Xiaomi Mi Mix. Sensors such as Proximity and Ambient Light are all placed below the display.
Add all these things together, and the Vivo Nex becomes a look at the next generation of smartphone design and technology.
Vivo stunned the tech community earlier this year by unveiling their concept phone Vivo Apex at the MWC 2018.
Vivo Nex a massive 6.59-inches full HD+ (2316×1080) Super AMOLED display with 19.3:9 ratio and 91.24 percent screen-to-body ratio. The camera also supports DCI-P3 colour gamut. One will be a base model NEX, while the other will be the more powerful, more expensive NEX S. The base Vivo NEX will be powered by the new Snapdragon 710, making it only the second device to bear that honor. And thus, one of the highlights of the phone is that it comes with a pop-up front-facing camera. The camea has features such as Portrait Mode, Live Photos, Beauty mode, AI HDR and AR stickers.
The Vivo NEX a runs on Funtouch OS 4.0 based on Android 8.1 Oreo operating system. They also pack 4000mAh battery with fast charging support.
The Vivo Nex S comes with fingerprint scanner embedded in the display. Rs. 41,000). These NEX phones will go on sale in China from June 23. For more Android stuff stay tuned to GoAndroid. Still, you have to give mad props to Vivo for launching such a smartphone. Do you want it to launch in other markets except for China?
