Warriors Survive Scare in Utah, Remain Undefeated
The Golden State Warriors rained threes in the desert and pushed their NBA-record start to 17-0. Not only that, the 76ers’ 28 straight losses (dating back to last season) sets a new record in major United States professional sports.
Stephen Curry got hot when it mattered most and the unbeaten Golden State Warriors had a November to remember.
Down 104-103, the Jazz had a chance to take the lead but Rodney Hood missed a 3-point attempt with seven seconds left, and the Warriors came away with the loose ball. Moreover, Draymond Green had 13 points, 12 assists and 11 rebounds to compliment Curry’s performance.
MCEVERS: I mean, we are barely a month into what is a very long season, and already people are making comparisons to the Chicago Bulls, you know, the team that was led by Michael Jordan and won a record 72 games in 1996.
Reigning league MVP Curry drained a season-high nine three-pointers and added eight assists and six rebounds at Talking Stick Resort Arena. But Hood missed a three from the wing with five seconds left, and Green grabbed the rebound and got the ball to Curry, who was fouled. Leonard, who did most of his damage with 15 points in the first half, led the Spurs in scoring for the sixth consecutive contest.
ATLANTA – Paul Millsap scored 26 points and Jeff Teague made all the big shots down the stretch, sending the Atlanta Hawks to a 106-100 victory that snapped Oklahoma City’s four-game winning streak Monday night.
The Bulls hit back after trailing by three heading into the final quarter as the Spurs, second only to the Warriors in the Western Conference, had a five-match winning run ended.
“They shoot 3s like layups”, Suns forward Markieff Morris said. A pair of free throws by Derrick Favors gave Utah an 88-87 lead after the Warriors committed a few turnovers and let the Jazz take the momentum.
“I could have scored 80 tonight, it wouldn’t have made a damn difference”, Bryant said. If they’re 41 and 2 or something like that then I would say they probably have a good shot.
The Sixers have now lost 17 straight games to open the season and they have been the worst team in the National Basketball Association.
As the schedule shows, any of those teams-except the Lakers, that is-can win against the Golden State Warriors and spoil their chance of breaking the record.
Leandro Barbosa added 21 points, as the former Suns player was 5-for-5 shooting from beyond the arc and 8 for 9 from the field. He was able to pull more points in the fourth quarter and improved the team standings with 18-0. The Utah Jazz are averaging 95.5 points on 43.8 percent shooting and allowing 93.2 points on 44.1 percent shooting.
