‘Wenger chose him’ Arsenal star considered transfer after Community Shield snub
Bellerin has started Arsenal’s last three games at right-back, relegating Debuchy to the bench and the France global admits he has spoken with Wenger about his situation.
“It is hard”, he told L’Equipe. “Even if I didn’t play a lot last season, in my head I was coming back in order to be in the starting XI for the resumption”.
The French global joined the club in 2014 but ankle ligament injuries and a dislocated shoulder limited him to 11 appearances last season.
Debuchy has featured just once this season, in the Gunners’ 2-0 loss to West Ham United in their first league match of the campaign.
But the young Spaniard was picked ahead of him and has been ever since, forcing Debuchy to consider his future at the club.
The importance of Euro 2016 can not be underestimated to him personally, but his experience will be vital to Arsenal’s backline over the course of the season, so his situation is one manager Arsene Wenger will have to oversee carefully.
‘It was a surprise and a disappointment.
“Let’s say it crossed my mind, but I want to be at Arsenal and regain my place. But I want to be at Arsenal and to take my place”, L’Equipe quoted the player as saying.
“He knows that I’m anxious because at the end of the season there’s an important event coming up”.
