Yet Another Attack In Udhampur, Officials Suspect 4-5 Terrorists Hiding
The militants hurled grenades and opened fire on the convoy when it reached Samroli near Udhampur on its way from Jammu to Srinagar.
Police officials said the young terrorist, identified as Usman alias Qasim Khan, hailed from Faislabad in Pakistan and was linked to the Lashkar-e-Taiba, the group which carried out the horrific 2008 Mumbai terror attack.
“The interrogation of one the two terrorists, who was captured alive, is expected to reveal their modus operandi, including the details of their infiltration from across the border and their targets”, he said.
The attack comes a week after militants stormed a police station in neighbouring Punjab province, sparking an 11-hour gunbattle with officers that killed seven people. “He fired at the terrorist and killed him even though he himself was badly wounded”, said Rakesh Kumar, the Inspector General of the Border Security Force (BSF). In Chirdi, the lone armed terrorist took hostage three civilians in a school building and forced them to give him food. A National Investigation Agency team landed in Jammu to question Naved, who has been shifted to the Joint Interrogation Centre in Srinagar.
Asked about the CRPF’s claim, BSF chief Pathak said there was no “iota of doubt” about who had killed the alleged terrorist. Swaminathan Anklesaria Aiyar, writing in The Times of India, said that we should get more of the terrorists alive, as “dead men tell no tales”, but unsafe men who live too long in the comfort of padded cells may bring hidden costs, unknown dangers and he had also given an example.
Pakistani journalists were reportedly stopped from going to towards Ghulam Mohammadabad locality in Faisalabad, an address provided by Naved, the paper said.
“I am from Pakistan and my partner was killed in the firing but I escaped”.
Deputy Commissioner of Udhampur Dr Shahid Iqbal Choudhary said that about two police jawans were injured in the attack.
Pakistan confirmed on Thursday that India has proposed talks of top security officials with Pakistan in New Delhi august 23-24.
Naved has claimed that he and others were helped by locals and also a handler, Abu Kasim before launching the attack on the BSF convoy.
“We have repeatedly asked India to refrain from accusations”, Khalilullah said. He said one Pakistani militant was captured on Wednesday after a deadly attack on a military convoy in the occupied Kashmir.
