Yogendra Yadav arrested at Parliament street police station, complains of
“Be it Prime Minister Modi or the police, Kejriwal is using all tactics possible to divert people’s attention from his own flaws”, she added.
The protesters also claim that they had sent an intimation to Delhi Police about the march, and that they had been lathi – charged on reaching Jantar Mantar.
Singh said that allegations made by Yogendra Yadav were false.
The rift between Arvind Kejriwal and Yogendra Yadav showed up on Wednesday after AAP leader Sanjay Singh, who wanted to protest Yadav’s arrest by the Delhi Police, was heckled and shouted at by the rebel leader’s supporters.
Yadav, who spent the night in police custody after being detained late last night from a farmer protest, has now been arrested. “We caught hold of one of them and asked for his identity card but the man started pushing us”. He said he was “dragged and hit”, a charge which the police denied.
“I appeal to Home Minister Rajnath Singh to interfere in this and ask for a report regarding the issue”, Kejriwal told reporters here.
Yadav, founder member of Swaraj Abhiyan group, was taking part in a protest by farmers from Punjab, Haryana and Rajasthan against the controversial amendments to the land acquisition law that the Centre has proposed.
The former AAP leader also alleged that he was manhandled and beaten up before being arrested.
Senior lawyer Prashant Bhushan said that he was stopped from meeting Yogendra Yadav when he knew about his arrest and rushed to the police station to meet him.
Yadav and the others were detained by Delhi Police early on Tuesday from the Jantar Mantar protest site. This is not right as in this country peaceful demonstration is a fundamental right under Article 19 of the Constitution and we condemn such action against peaceful protesters.
