Yom Kippur to begin at sundown Tuesday

Beginning tonight and continuing through Wednesday night, the holiday of Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement, will be observed by Jews throughout the world.
On Yom Kippur, Jews are asked to not eat or drink, have sex, clean or anoint their bodies, or wear leather shoes, because these are the desires of the physical body.
The Shalom Center, a Philadelphia-based Jewish community, organized a Yom Kippur service at Washington’s Lincoln Memorial, to bring attention to the issue of the environment.
