Taylor Swift apologizes to Nicki Minaj for VMAs Twitter feud
“@NICKIMINAJ If I win, please come up with me!!”
The fact of the matter is, Nicki is not invited to any stage Taylor is on, because Taylor enjoys a specific set of privileges that have helped propel her to those platforms.
Taylor Swift has reached out an olive branch to Nicki Minaj after getting confused by a tweet the rapper posted about the MTV VMAs.
Even Katy Perry weighed in with a tweet that appeared to be a subtle dig at Taylor.
She didn’t mention any names, but Swift thought the rapper was referring to her. The “Roar” singer earned Minaj’s stamp of approval and also noted that the day’s major snub went to Rihanna’s video for “Bitch Better Have My Money”, which was iced out of the nominees. “So the awards shows just become a mediocrity contest”. The music industry is well known to have all kinds of undeclared hang-ups around the issue of race, and Minaj may well be correct in her suspicion that she was overlooked because her face – or perhaps her satirical “twerking” on the Anaconda video – didn’t fit.
“When the “other” girls drop a video that breaks records and impacts culture they get that nomination”, she continued. It’s not her fault.
Once all the thinkpieces about this exchange and what it means culturally had been written, Perry stepped in and blew it all up again, sending out a tweet obviously directed at Swift, whose video “Bad Blood” is rumored to be an attack on Perry.
He also was quoted as saying Minaj’s argument was “redundant”. “I definitely said it wrong though, apologies”. “I thought I was being called out. I missed the point, then misspoke, I’m sorry, Nicki”, Taylor wrote.
Ed Sheeran and Bruno Mars chimed in with their own satirical Twitter feud, while Katy Perry later jumped in to further fuel her ongoing feud with Swift. “Let’s move on”.
“That SNL (TV) skit about not knowing you like Taylor Swift was on point”.
When it comes to choosing which concerts to attend, I am very deliberate.
“When Miley Cyrus stripped off and broke a million health and safety rules by riding a piece of construction equipment, she wasn’t just nominated for Best Music Video of the Year – she won it”, Corinne Redfern writes for the magazine.
Like Swift, Sheeran received a Video of the Year nod for “Thinking Out Loud”.
