Is Tom Cruise Ready to Retire the Mission Impossible Franchise?
McQuarrie also wrote the screenplay for Mission: Impossible Rogue Nation.
At times the deception and the intrigue and the twists and turns make it almost impossible follow every detail of the plot, but even when things get muddled, we know Ethan’s our hero, and we know we’ll eventually learn the true intentions of Ilsa and the rest of the players. Cruise is – and I say this nicely – a total maniac, which goes a long way toward cranking up an action sequence. McQuarrie inherited the series at its peak, Brad Bird’s “Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol” having brought the franchise back to relevance with talented new teammates, extravagant set pieces, and much-needed humor.
The “Mission: Impossible” franchise has been picking up supporting players along the way like a lint roller going over a Christmas sweater.
