World leaders at the United Nations General Assembly laughed at President Donald Trump on Tuesday when he claimed his administration had accomplished more than any other in USA history.
While highlighting his commitment to “putting sovereignty above global governance”, he attacked globalism, and lashed out at several worldwide organizations and treaties, such as the UN Human Rights Council, the worldwide Criminal Court and the Iran nuclear deal, all of which his administration has said it would exit or impose sanctions against. “The United States is respected again”.
US President Donald Trump has urged other members of the UN Security Council to work with America to ensure Iran never acquires a nuclear bomb.
“If you cross us, our allies, or our partners; if you harm our citizens; if you continue to lie, cheat, and deceive, yes, there will indeed be hell to pay”, Bolton said Tuesday at the United Against Nuclear Iran Summit.
“I heard a little rustle, and I said, ‘It’s true, ‘ and I heard smiles”, Trump said Wednesday.
Soon afterward, French President Emmanuel Macron seemed to rebuke Trump’s comments during his own speech at the United Nations.
With the laughter audible, Trump smiled and said, “I didn’t expect that reaction, but that’s okay”.
Speaking of Bashar Assad’s regime use of chemical weapons against Syrian civilians during clashes with rebel forces, Trump said “Syria’s butchery is enabled by Russian Federation and Iran”. “We do not wish to increase tensions _ none of the above”. “We will never surrender America’s sovereignty to an unaccountable, unelected global bureaucracy”.
The Trump administration says China is stepping up covert and overt activities to stifle free speech, punish those who support the president’s tough trade stance against China and interfere in the US political system. Oil sanctions are expected in November.
Rouhani pointed out that the two sides can make a new deal if it is in continuation of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).
Trump is now renegotiating trade deals with several USA allies, including Canada and Mexico, using high tariffs for leverage.
Iranian President Hassan Rouhani told the Assembly in his speech that no country can be brought to the negotiating table by force.
He called Monday’s decision by the five other signatories to the agreement who still support it _ Russia, China, Britain France and Germany _ to establish a financial facility in the European Union to facilitate payments for Iranian imports and exports “a very good step forward”. “We refuse to accept any unwarranted accusations against China”, Mr Wang said.
“For the first time, the U.S. president was asking other members not to adhere to a resolution of the very same Security Council over which he was presiding”, quipped Rouhani.
