Kanye West for president? Just wait until 2020
After admitting that he “rolled up a little something” before coming to the show, West made his political ambitions clear. “I don’t know what’s going to happen tomorrow, bro”, the artist, who received the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard award, said. It’s about new ideas.
Worldwide desks – Popular American Rap singer Kanye West announced his plan to run the U.S. presidential election in 2020, Guardian newspaper reported Monday. And if the White House Press Secretary has heard the news, that likely means President Obama has as well. But, what can not be denied is if Kanye were to take office, he would make history in a way that that is rivaled by previous office holders.
According to executive producer Van Toffler, who spoke with Billboard earlier this week, MTV thought Kanye was going to do a medley of hits originally, before finding out that wasn’t the case 10 minutes before his slotted appearance.
“And I think if I had to do it all again, what would I have done?” I’m really, really elated with his speech.
Toffler went on to say that this had never happened before in the history of the VMAs, but the network was willing to go along with Kanye’s whims because he’s Kanye. Most times, his words are daring, honest and filled with passion.
“I still don’t understand award shows”, he said.
Taylor Swift presented him with the gong, showing that they had resolved their feud, which started at the 2009 event, when Kanye interrupted her acceptance speech for Best Video, claiming Beyonce should have won instead. You know how many times they announced Taylor was gonna give me that award, because it got them more ratings? “I knocked the edge off”.
“‘Did you smoke something before coming out here?'” West said. “What you may not know is “College Dropout” was the first album my brother and I bought on iTunes when I was 12 years old”.
