Neil Patrick Harris and David Burtka Married in Italy after 10 Years of Relationship

Neil Patrick Harrisis married! Surprisingly the 41 years old TV personality from “How I Met Your Mother” married his partner David Burtka in a romantic Italian ceremony.

Officially Harris and David are married couple

It was a shock for the fans after they came to know about Neil Patrick Harris’ marriage. The American actor tweeted with a pic of the tux-clad duo during the service, saying “@DavidBurtka and I got married over the weekend in Italy. Yup, we put the ’n’ and ‘d’ in ‘husband.”

A longtime relation

Neil Patrick Harris publicly came out as a gay in 2006 and got engaged with David, 39, in the month of September 2007. However, it needs special mention that the duo had been dating since 2004. The couple is the father of twins Gideon and Harper, who were born in 2010 through a surrogate mother.

Marriage after Marriage Equality Act in 2011

In June 2011 the engagement became official after the Marriage Equality Act was passed in New York. The act made it legal for the same sex couple to marry. Harris clarified in Twitter that “David and I did propose to each other, but over five years ago! We’ve been wearing engagement rings for ages, waiting for an available date.”

Supportive partner

Couple of month ago Harris was awarded the Tony Award for his leading role in Broadway revival of ‘Hedwig and the Angry Inch’. In the award function he thanked his partner David for support and love. He said, “To my family, David, I love you so much and I am so happy that we’ve gotten to do this, thank you for your sacrifices and thank you for putting up with me in all of this.”
